UF student dies after being struck by car on West University Avenue
Gainesville police say the driver swerved to avoid another vehicle, and the investigation into the death of 19-year-old Hazel Krauss is ongoing.
The crash
A UF freshman, 19-year-old Hazel Krauss, died after being struck by a car on West University Avenue on a Saturday night. [1] The death affects students at the University of Florida, where Krauss was enrolled. [2]

What police say happened

According to Gainesville Police spokesperson Art Forgey, the driver swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle. [1] As the driver swerved, the left side of the vehicle struck Krauss, who was crossing the street. [1] The driver also hit the other vehicle with the right side of his car. [1]
Officers say the driver swerved to avoid another vehicle and hit the woman as she crossed the street, as well as the other vehicle. [2]
Help at the scene
A nurse on the scene responded to Krauss until emergency medical services arrived. [1] Another account says the nurse helped the woman until rescue crews arrived. [2]
Krauss was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital, where she later died. [1]
